Life – by Darlene

Today we were in a small private garden when I saw a monk praying. I put my camera away,  wanting to be as respectful as possible.

When he saw us, he immediately came up to me and asked my name. I was dumbfounded and took a moment to reply. He then asked my name again, so I told him it was Darlene. He then asked where we were from. I told him the US.

As the conversation progressed, he just kept looking into my eyes, and he finally said, “Beautiful”. I asked him if it was okay to take his picture. At first he hesitated, but then he said, “Yes”.  He then again said, “Beautiful”, and as he walked away, I said, “God bless you.”

The beauty of this encounter is that this monk saw the light of Christ shine through me. When sharing the gospel, many opportunities can present itself. However, it is a testament to our GOD, that a monk could see the light of Christ shining through a woman and would break his traditions to seek the truth that lives in us.

  1. Darlene, I pray the memory of the light shining forth through your eyes will be forever etched in his brain, that the memory of this encounter will be a driving force in his search for the one true God. And that in his “finding”, he will testify to the revelation of the emptiness of all other spiritual pursuits.
