A Bright Light – By Bethany McMahon
In the very midst of the red light district PatPong in Bangkok is a place of hope called ‘Rahab’s House’. We were able to visit on Tuesday morning to learn more about this incredible ministry and spend time with some precious souls there. We met the most beautiful and courageous women who have chosen to leave the sex industry. We were blessed by their joy and love and their readiness to serve us. They made us lunch, made jewelry with us and we watched as they carefully crocheted children’s toys and created amazing bracelets and necklaces to sell. We laughed with them, danced with them and my heart was truly touched by our few hours together.
Rahab’s House not only provides work for women, but they also teach English, they hold Bible studies and reach out to surrounding villages with children’s programs. They build relationships with women working in the red light district and are able to meet tangible needs of those that need help. It will take a woman approximately one week working at Rahab’s House to earn what they could in one night in the bars, but their desire is to see the Thai women living free lives, able to earn a living in a safe and wholesome environment.
My heart is passionate for this city and the changes that need to happen in many hearts. I’m praying that God would continue to work in great ways here through Rahab’s House to be a bright light in the midst of much darkness
