Busy Bees by Janet Gerow

As we walked and prayed through the Grand Palace most of the activity among the tourists nationals was different this time. In a continued mourning period for the king, the mood was quieter. There were many people walking, praying, taking pictures, waiting in lines. Security was heightened. A nation was and is honoring a dearly beloved king.

It was hot and humid just like the other times I had visited and the sun was shining brightly. I looked for the planters with the lily pads and flowers. They always have the prettiest purple and pink flowers. I love taking pictures of the simple beauty of them and am always amazed and reminded of the one who made them.

As I focused and took the first picture, I noticed something different. No doubt it was there before, but I never ‘saw it’. Little bees (or at least something similar), were busy at work inside one of the flowers. They were busily doing what God created them to do. They get all the nectar they can so that honey can be made. Yum! But, in doing so they drop or spread pollen as they fly around in search of another flower or to return to their hive. God created this pollination process. This process continues to give us some of the most beautiful flowers. But what does this mean to me? I like pretty flowers and I love when honey is added to my food.

Yes and no. I’m called to be like the bee. I should be feeding and excited to be fed from God’s Word. Then as I’m commanded in Matthew, I am to go out and spread the Word, make disciples, baptize men.

God knew I needed to be reminded of this at this particular time, I’ve seen these bees several other times and this message I didn’t hear. I’m glad and thankful I heard His voice. What a great responsibility and privilege I have to Bee one of God’s Busy Bees!
