Sawadika from Thailand! What an amazing experience so far here in Bangkok- we went to the red light district yesterday (our ministry is primarily in the evenings), talking with the mamasan’s and the local partner ministries; I have learned so much about the Thai culture, for example about the Buddhist religion and practices and how the girls enter into prostitution…
In Thailand, girls, rather than guys, are expected to provide for their families so the vast majority of the girls come from very poor areas in the north and come to the red light districts in Thailand to provide money to support their families back home- the boys are expected to become monks, which the Buddhists believe enable the parents to go to Paradise (Heaven)-
I met a little girl last night who is very young (middle school age) who was selling wares- I sat with her last night and we colored together- she was so excited to color; I found out details about the little girl’s situation after that made my heart break…Please keep her in your prayers!!!
